Drones

Drones provide us with a rare perspective on the forest and give us insights into the very individual phases of leaf development and coloration of trees in an otherwise homogeneous stand. This information helps us to better explain the reaction possibilities of the trees and to further develop phenology and growth models.

In the now completed project “Study on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in continuous environmental monitoring”, we investigated the use of drones to obtain high-quality remote sensing data for forest environmental monitoring. Various drone flight variants were tested at the Britz intensive monitoring site and compared with the results of terrestrial surveys.
